7.Correction of Sentences - Prepositions

Model-1

Wrong Sentence:

Of late, I have done a project in Mahatma Gandhi Road in Bengaluru.

Why?

Before specific places in a town, city or community and for specific addresses preposition ‘at’ is used, not ‘in’.

Right Sentence :

Of late, I have done a project at Mahatma Gandhi Road in Bengaluru.


Model-2

Wrong Sentence:

Pramod has a Toyota Innova beside a Tata Sumo.

Why?

‘Beside’ means ‘by the side of and ‘Besides’ means ‘in addition to' or ‘also’. For the above sentence, ‘besides’ is the correct preposition.

Right Sentence :

Pramod has a Toyota Innova besides a Tata Sumo.


Model-3

Wrong Sentence:

Robert, my friend, has been working for Microsoft from 2007.

Why?

Since expresses the duration of an unfinished action, and refers to the starting point From is usually closely followed by other prepositions such as to, till or until, and refers to the end of the action.

Right Sentence :

Robert, my friend, has been working for Microsoft since 2007.

Wrong Sentence:

After knowing the silly mistakes committed by me, my friend laughed in me.

Why?

In a way my friend made a mockery of my mistake. So the verb ‘laugh’ has to be followed by at’, not ‘in’.

Right Sentence :

After knowing the silly mistakes committed by me, my friend laughed at me.
